Science

Head Teacher: Mr Hamish Ryan

The Science Faculty at Kooringal High School inspires curiosity, creativity and critical thinking about the world around us. Through hands-on investigations and evidence-based learning, students develop the skills and knowledge to explain phenomena, solve problems, and make informed decisions about the future.

In Years 7–10, Science is a core subject. Students follow the NSW Science syllabus, exploring biology, chemistry, physics and Earth and space science through integrated units. The curriculum focuses on inquiry, observation, experimentation and communication of scientific ideas, while connecting learning to real-world contexts. Students develop both conceptual understanding and practical skills that prepare them for further study in Stage 6 and beyond.

In Years 11 and 12, students can specialise in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth and Environmental Science, and Science Extension. These courses provide opportunities for in-depth study, hands-on experimentation, and the development of critical thinking and research skills, preparing students for tertiary study and careers in science and technology.

Across all stages, the Science Faculty at Kooringal High School is committed to fostering scientific literacy, innovation, and a lifelong curiosity that empowers students to understand and shape the world around them.
