PDHPE
Head Teacher: Mrs Rachael Macri
The Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) Faculty at Kooringal High School aims to empower students to make informed choices, enhance wellbeing, and lead active, healthy lives. Through PDHPE, students explore the physical, social, cognitive and emotional dimensions of health while developing skills, knowledge and values that support lifelong wellbeing and participation in physical activity.
In Years 7 and 8, students undertake four PDHPE lessons per fortnight, and in Years 9 and 10, six lessons per fortnight. Lessons combine theory and practical components, allowing students to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences. Students develop confidence, teamwork, leadership and critical thinking, while gaining an understanding of respectful relationships, personal responsibility and the factors that influence health and lifestyle choices.
From Year 9, students can extend their learning through elective courses such as Physical Activity and Sports Studies (PASS), Dance, Child Studies and Exploring Early Childhood. These courses provide practical and theoretical learning experiences that foster creativity, collaboration, and real-world application of health and movement concepts.
In Years 11 and 12, students can specialise in courses including Health and Movement Science, Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation, Community and Family Studies, and Exploring Early Childhood. These courses deepen students’ understanding of health, movement, and community wellbeing, while providing opportunities to apply knowledge through inquiry, research and practical experiences.
Through a diverse range of programs, electives and enrichment opportunities, the PDHPE Faculty at Kooringal High School equips students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead healthy, active and responsible lives.
