EAL/D
Head Teacher: Ms Bindee Jobe
The EAL/D (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) team at Kooringal High School is committed to supporting students from diverse language backgrounds to achieve success across all areas of learning. Through targeted and inclusive programs, we develop students’ English language proficiency, enabling them to engage confidently in the full curriculum.
Our EAL/D program includes Intensive English classes for newly arrived students, literacy intervention programs, assessment support, parallel teaching, and in-class support across a range of subjects. We work collaboratively with classroom teachers to embed effective EAL/D strategies into teaching and learning programs, including differentiating curriculum content, developing scaffolds, modifying assessments and ensuring equitable access to learning. Students’ language development is monitored using the EAL/D Learning Progressions, and individual Learning and Adjustment Plans are implemented to support ongoing growth. We also provide guidance for whole-school assessments and requirements, including Minimum Standards, All My Own Work and VALID, ensuring students understand task expectations and can demonstrate their knowledge confidently.
The EAL/D team works closely with families and external agencies to provide holistic support, referring students to additional programs where required. Through strong collaboration, high expectations and targeted intervention, the EAL/D faculty empowers students to build confidence, strengthen their language proficiency, and achieve their full potential at Kooringal High School.
