Careers Advisor: Mrs Fitzgerald
The Careers department at Kooringal High School is committed to supporting students as they explore pathways beyond school and prepare confidently for their future. Through personalised guidance, practical experiences and strong industry connections, students are encouraged to discover their interests, develop career-ready skills and make informed decisions about their post-school options.
From Years 9 to 12, students are provided with a wide range of opportunities to explore potential career pathways through excursions, expos, programs and in-school presentations. Throughout the year, industry professionals, tradespeople, the ADF, universities, TAFE and training organisations visit the school to share real-world experiences and insights, helping students visualise future opportunities across a variety of industries and professions.
In Years 10 to 12, students can participate in work experience programs that provide valuable exposure to workplace environments and career pathways. These experiences allow students to gain a deeper understanding of different job roles, workplace expectations and training requirements, while also building confidence, practical skills and professional connections that can support future employment opportunities.
Year 10 students complete the ‘Where to Next?’ unit as part of PD/Health/PE, where they develop essential employability skills including resume writing, job applications and interview techniques. As part of this program, students participate in Practice Interviews, giving them the opportunity to engage in mock interviews for jobs or scholarships and receive constructive feedback to strengthen their confidence and communication skills.
Students across all year groups have access to personalised careers support, including assistance with senior subject selections, career planning, training pathways, resume preparation, interview skills and applications for employment, apprenticeships, traineeships and further study opportunities. The weekly careers newsletter, distributed to students and families from Years 9 to 12, also provides up-to-date information on events, scholarships, training opportunities, work experience and employment pathways.
With experienced guidance and a strong focus on preparing students for life beyond school, the Careers department at Kooringal High School empowers students to explore their options, set achievable goals and confidently transition into further education, training or employment pathways.
